Downloading e-books to PC
How to set up your account for screen reader access
You can download the files for reading for desktop or mobile device, the instructions below are how to install the viewer and read via PC however the process is very similar via mobile device.
If you are wanting to download to an iOS Apple device (iPad, iPhone or iPod) or to an Android device (phone, tablet or Chromebook) see our Downloading e-books to devices guide.
Step 1: Device Selection
Find your desired e-book and select ‘Download Book’
Then select ‘Continue’ as ‘Laptop Desktop’ is already selected.
Step 2: Adobe Digital Editions
It will instruct you to download the Adobe Digital Editions. This is because the Portable Document Format (PDF) is downloaded as an Adobe Content Server Message (acsm) filetype, so you need an appropriate reader to access the e-book, advisably Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) but other readers are available.
Select ‘Adobe ID’ and set up your own Adobe ID that you will need for using acsm files.
Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) can be downloaded via the ‘Get Adobe Digital Editions’ button or from: adobe.com/uk/solutions/ebook/digital-editions.html
Select the correct package for Apple Macintosh or Windows and go through the installation.
Once you have an Adobe ID and ADE you can proceed.
Step 3: Loan
Once you proceed after installing your app you can choose your loan length; when the loan expires you will have to redownload the book; then select Download.
If you’re on a desktop you will get a pop-up window for the download. Save the file and open it in Adobe Digital Editions.
Once open you can read the e-book until the loan expires.
Sorry, we do not officially support download to other devices. If you use an emulator, you may wish to try the PC/Mac option.
